Core Extension - Lore

Lore is another fundamental extension to EMCore.

With Lore it becomes possible to detail and highlight the knowledge of each character.

This immediately increases the game value of Insight, because Lore doesn't limit itself to stories the character knows, but practical knowledge, like the ability to treat wounds, the ability to operate specialist equipment or technological devices, etc.

All players begin with a number of Lore known equal to their Insight Aspect Level. Players with Insight Level 5 gain 2 additional types of Lore. Players with Insight Level 4 gain 1 bonus type of Lore. Among a host of others, the following types of Lore are available:
    • Academia: You have had the luxury of studying some mode of education which makes you familiar with erudite texts, capable of reading and writing with ease, knowing the proper use of grammar and syntax. You are also familiar with fundamental teaching and learning concepts, so that you can use your skills to facilitate teaching or learning new knowledge.
    • Alchemy: You know the qualities and values of various arcane substances, along with more mundane ones. You also possess a good fundamental knowledge of traditional chemistry, including some fundamental understanding of organic chemistry.
    • Crystal Science: You know the ins and outs of crystal science, and thus are able to operate and maintain crystal-based technologies, including laser, energy and beam weapons, and other equipment.
    • Culture: You are well versed in various aspects of particular cultural knowledge. This includes the language, customs, beliefs, mythology, folk tales, folk art and other trivia of said culture. Most characters know a few things about their own culture, but someone with the culture lore is decidedly knowledgeable and trustworthy. In more primitive situations culture lore is tribal lore. This lore can be chosen multiple times. Each time it applies to a new culture.
    • Digital Technology: You understand the fundamentals of digital technology, being able to operate successfully and maintain various digital devices. This knowledge includes software and network engineering.
    • Engineering: You understand how complex structures are put together. This knowledge applies with actual structures (structural engineering), mechanical configurations (mechanical engineering), or electricity circuits (electrical engineering).
    • Firearms: You are versed in the knowledge of how to use firearms successfully and maintain them without difficulty. You can also identify various types of firearms, what kind of ammunition they use, and how they function.
    • Geography: You have studied pre-cataclysmic geography and can successfully peruse various kinds of maps and other information, including landmarks, monuments etc. in order to successfully travel and navigate in most land-based areas of Arandor.
    • History: You have studied Arandorean history with a primary focus on a specific area and era. You can select this lore multiple times. Each time it applies to a new area of history.
    • Medicine: You understand the basics of biology and how to deal against many types of ailments. You can use your knowledge to successfully treat the wounds of others, as well as provide first aid in dire situations.
    • Philosophy: You have studied the wisdom of the ancients, which makes it easier for you to find inspiration during critical moments, and to choose wisely in confusing situations.
    • Metallurgy: You understand how to mine and produce various types of metals and/or alloys by processing raw minerals with the appropriate equipment.
    • Mysticism: Besides being schooled to various religious doctrines, you have studied the world of Spirit and how it functions, and you are able to make better sense of its workings. You can connect to the supernatural, channel and evoke particular spiritual energies, and ask divine powers to connect with you.
    • Occult: You are familiar with the intricacies of occult matters such as spells, rituals, and generally functions that coerce the spiritual energies to manifest in particular ways. You can choose to use this knowledge, which often comes with a hidden spiritual cost, or you can choose to merely benefit from the knowledge itself, which allows you to decipher how sorcerers or other arcanists try to establish power (and how they consequently harm the spirit world, in their pursuit for power).
    • Survival: You are able to find shelter and survive in one type of terrain. You can take this Lore multiple times, each time it applies to a new type of terrain. Note that this lore does not guarantee survival. It merely allows the character to roll for things they would have no way of finding without this lore (eg. finding food and water in deserts). They can still be out of luck and not find what they are looking for. A few viable terrain types in Arandor are the following:
      • Urban (Citadels),
      • Urban (Hab-Hive),
      • Subterranean (Undercities),
      • Subterranean (Natural Caverns),
      • Wastelands,
      • Verdant Wilds,
      • Desert,
      • Plains,
      • Wetlands,
      • Marshes,
      • Salt Flats,
      • Frozen Highlands,
      • Stormy Cliffs,
      • Pine Forests,
      • Marine Coasts,
      • Aquatic
