Aspects - Insight

Insight is the Fourth Aspect. It governs all of the mental faculties available to us, whether they belong to the right or left brain hemisphere, as well as our powers of perception, timing and reaction.

Insight is loosely connected to the notion of time, because those who benefit from its power seem to have a knack for acting in the right moment, or being in the right place at the right time, and always have the right advice to give, the right words to say or perceive the truth of things.

Some people interpret this sense of timing as luck or fortune. Those that know, simply call it Insight.

Of course the domain of Insight doesn't stop there. Since its elemental nature is that of Air which is fluid, Insight is also everywhere, and connects everything with everything else, same as Adeptness, but also different. Insight connects things at a high level, and everything is ultimately brought to the light. Knowledge, reason, and intuition combine into erudite or educated concepts.

But Insight is also about expression, both in words, but also in symbols or art.

Therefore, Insight and Adeptness have some wonderful opportunity to combine forces, but while Adeptness attracts the crafty and the dexterous, insight attracts the intellectual, or the philosophical, so there is also some inner conflict between the two Aspects.

On the downside, Insight sometimes renders people ponderous, absent-minded, distracted, or detached, too absorbed in their ruminations to maintain contact with their surroundings. Sometimes the sage can be good with words and thoughts, but rather useless in practice, dwelling on thoughts too long to make any actual impact. Those without the discipline of Fortitude, or the choler of Force, find it hard to concentrate on one task, becoming easily distracted by trivial details. On the other extreme however, they can become petty, critical or melancholy. Busy minds tend to construct their own castles in the sand, but the world always looks imperfect compared to everyone's mental utopias,

Wisdom provides sound advice, but action must soon follow, or it will all be in vain. Art and expression is only worthwhile when completed. Focus, becomes key.

The following abilities can be developed as part of Insight:

  • Arcana
  • Architecture
  • Art
  • Engineering
  • Intuition
  • Investigation
  • Lore
  • Perception
  • Science
The following character traits can be developed with Insight:

  • Artistic
  • Analytic
  • Discerning
  • Erudite
  • Knowledgeable
  • Wise
The following flaws can develop as part of developing Insight:

  • Absent-minded
  • Critical
  • Impractical
  • Melancholy
  • Petty
The virtue related to the Aspect of Insight is, of course, Wisdom, the ability to take the proper course of action in the right time, and also the ability to understand harmony, balance and understand one's limitations.
